The Bank of Zambia has introduced a new series of Zambian Kwacha banknotes, featuring six denominations: K10, K20, K50, K100, K200, and K500. The new notes celebrate Zambia’s economic pillars and cultural diversity while incorporating enhanced security features.

The front of each banknote prominently displays the flying African Fish Eagle, a symbol of Zambia, along with key economic sectors in the background. Additionally, endemic flowers are included as a see-through register, adding a unique visual feature to the notes.

On the reverse side, the banknotes highlight six of Zambia’s major waterfalls at the center, accompanied by endemic animals depicted at the bottom of each note. Endemic trees are featured on the left side, while the Big Five animals appear on the K20, K50, K100, K200, and K500 denominations.

To ensure authenticity and security, the new Kwacha banknotes incorporate several advanced features, including watermarks, security threads, see-through registers, and a color-shifting ink effect. Raised ink patterns enhance accessibility for visually impaired users, while a latent image and numbering system further prevent counterfeiting.

The Bank of Zambia emphasizes that the new series showcases the nation’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, paying tribute to Zambia’s identity. These banknotes serve as a reminder of the country’s unique wildlife, economic resilience, and national pride.

The release of the updated currency aims to strengthen public confidence in the financial system while celebrating Zambia’s biodiversity and economic progress.
