Mopani Copper Mines Refutes Claims of Meeting with Kankoyo MP

Mopani Copper Mines PLC has dismissed claims made by Kankoyo Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Heartson Mabeta, regarding a meeting between his office and Mopani Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Charles Sakanya, over the Mufulira copper slag dump, also known as the Mufulira Black Mountain.
In an official statement issued by Mopani Copper Mines, the company described the claims as "fake and baseless," asserting that Mr. Sakanya never engaged Hon. Mabeta on the matter. The company urged members of the public to disregard the MP’s statements, which it labeled as untrue and misleading.
Mopani Copper Mines emphasized that the Mufulira copper slag dump remains a critical company asset and an integral part of its long term mining plans. The company reaffirmed its commitment to retaining control over the asset and stated that it has no intention of relinquishing it under any circumstances.
Furthermore, the statement clarified that Mopani Copper Mines has established communication channels for all company-related matters and that the Kankoyo MP is not authorized to issue any statements on the company's or its officials' behalf.
Dr. Nebert Mulenga, the company’s Public Relations Manager, signed the statement, who provided contact details for further inquiries.
Mopani Copper Mines PLC remains committed to transparency and accurate communication regarding its operations, urging the public to rely on official company sources for verified information.
