President Hakainde Hichilema’s Japan Visit Yields Positive Results

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent state visit to Japan, from February 3rd to 7th, 2025, has strengthened bilateral ties and secured key investment opportunities for Zambia. The trip, made at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, focused on trade, infrastructure, and renewable energy partnerships.
President Hichilema engaged with top Japanese corporations such as Toyota, Fujita Corporation, and the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security. These discussions emphasized investment in road infrastructure, energy, and other development projects.
Hichilema toured advanced manufacturing facilities in Nagoya and Kyoto, including a waste-to-energy plant, as part of Zambia’s efforts to explore sustainable energy solutions.
The Zambia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo on February 6th provided a platform to promote Zambia’s investment potential. The forum focused on trade expansion, healthcare, and education collaborations.
The visit also marked the 60th anniversary of Zambia-Japan relations. President Hichilema acknowledged Japan’s ongoing support in agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure, while also calling for deeper cooperation in climate change, food security, and disaster response.
With these positive outcomes, the visit has paved the way for increased Japanese investments in Zambia’s economy, reinforcing long-term cooperation between the two nations.
