The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has issued a stern warning to Diamond TV over its failure to maintain professionalism during its Breakfast Show aired earlier today. The program, which featured Mr. Francis Kapwepwe, reportedly included inappropriate language that was not properly moderated, raising concerns from the regulatory body.

In an official statement, the IBA criticized Diamond TV for failing to uphold its responsibility in ensuring that offensive language was not broadcast. The authority expressed disappointment with the show’s moderators, stating that they did not handle the situation with the seriousness it required. The IBA emphasized that journalistic standards demand broadcasters prevent the use of inappropriate language on air.

Additionally, the IBA reminded Diamond TV of its obligations under Section 24 (1) (e) of the IBA (Amendment) Act No. 26 of 2010, which requires commercial television stations to adhere to the highest standards of journalistic professionalism.

Following the incident, the IBA strongly cautioned Diamond TV against similar unprofessional conduct in the future. It also noted that such content goes against Zambia’s cultural values and urged the station to strictly adhere to ethical broadcasting guidelines.

IBA Acting Director General, Mrs. Susan Ndumingu, reiterated the importance of professionalism and responsible journalism, emphasizing that broadcasters must uphold ethical standards at all times. The authority has directed Diamond TV to implement corrective measures to prevent future violations.

The regulatory body concluded by reaffirming its commitment to fostering a fair, transparent, and pluralistic broadcasting industry in Zambia.
